Bling Bling Day

On Wednesday the 25th of May, we had a dress day which was based on bling. Mara brought a cool glittery t-shirt with a black face on it, Chloe brought lots of sparkly bracelets and necklaces, Lucas B brought a necklace with a dollar sign and Luca A brought a bling t-shirt. Even the teachers joined in! I brought a very sparkly t-shirt too. We haven't decided which charity we are going to choose, we had to give in 5CHF to the contribution.

Trip to Gruyere

We went with the school to Gruyere on 19.05.2011. We went to a Castle and the most interesting thing for me was the mummy hand. After we went to a cheese factory that was interesting. We were learning how the cheese was made. They were also selling lots of souvenirs. After we went to a chocolate factory that was super interesting. They told us the history about chocolate. They also showed us how chocolate is made. Bye!

Afghanistan

A British woman who is now living in Afghanistan to work for orphanages came to visit our school and talk to us about what she is doing in Afghanistan.

What surprised us a lot is that Afghanistan looks a lot like Switzerland. There are a lot of mountains with snow and grass on them.

The Afghan people are very poor and the kids play war for fun because that's all they see, war. Bombs explode all the time in Afghanistan because of the Taliban. Kids played with fake guns because that's what they see in their lives but I was surprised to see children playing in the streets with plastic guns because I thought they would be poorer than that.

They are poor and very violent but to see what they are doing when they're not fighting is surprising. They kind of have normal lives. People help kids to learn, they go out on the streets just hanging out. It's nothing too weird but to see and hear something g different than what you hear on the news is very shocking. You rely on the news and you listen to it for new events but there is a big difference between the first hand news and second hand news.

We saw a lot of photos of the Afghan countryside. We were all surprised because there were mountains with snow. We asked how come Afghanistan has mountains because we thought that Afghanistan was very hot.

We also saw many pictures with kids at nursery school, where they learn and on the streets. It was very sad and moving.

A lot of the problems in Afghanistan were for girls and women. About 20 years ago, girls could not go to school because people thought that men should do better things than women and that women where only to work in the house so they didn't get proper education.

Exams are coming up

Everybody in the Lower School is worried and nervous about the coming up exams. It is less than one month away and we don't know what will be on our exams. We will have math, science, geography, English, history, French, German, and oral languages (French and German). All of us are hoping we will get really good grades on our exams. On the last day of the exams, once it is all finished we will go to the swimming pool to refresh ourselves.

Bye,

Chloe

The European maths challenge

Our dear Miss Fish found again a cool new site for us to play on. You can practise thousands of things like percentages, decimals, fractions and many more. You could play with other people around the world from 8-15th of May. It's really fun. Many of us came on the first place when we were playing live. It's soooooo fun!!!!

Ski Trip

In March we went on a ski trip to Les Collons. The trip was great but the snow wasn't very good, the last day was the best because the snow was powdery. The people from Clarens were really friendly and we had lots of nice times with them, including a disco, sledging, chatting and the daily ding-a-ling competition. Leon won a ding-a-ling for flying on the ski lift! Here are some photos of the ski trip….

Swimming Lessons

For gym we will be going to the Nid-du-Cro swimming pool to have lessons with a swimming teacher. We already went last week and I am sure everybody enjoyed the full time they had in the water. At the end, Mr Clark let us, for 15 minutes, to free swim. So of course we all went to jump. After we finished we were all so tired, except the boys of course, that we could sleep like babies.

Glacier in Val de Travers

We all had fun in Val de Travers; we went to a hole which was a glacier. We all climbed down into a cave at the bottom of the hole, the cave was all ice and the ice was 15 meters thick. On either side of the ice there was a 15 meters drop! Ms. Fish made a few avalanches and made us all cold, and Mr. Robinson is a professional at this, so we learned a lot!

Arthur Gray

Arthur is our school rabbit. He is 5 years old and lives in the school building. He has grey fur and pointy ears, he is our school mascot, and has been a bit jealous of Shakespeare (the dog) because Shakespeare has been having most of the attention from us for the past few weeks but now Shakespeare has gone, he is happy again. Here are some photos of Arthur…

D.E.A.R. Day

On the last day of school before the spring vacation we had D.E.A.R. Day. We had so much fun. Miss Fish came in her Sponge Bob pajamas with fuzzy slippers. It was funny (no offense Miss Fish). Lots of us wore sweats instead. The Middles were lucky because they got to have D.E.A.R. Day for 4 periods and we had D.E.A.R. Day for only 2. It was also Leon's last day so he brought in a cake and drinks. D.E.A.R. Day was so fun.
